Special training
for nanotechnology
I did a lot of work in telecommunications planning
for developing countries. And more recently, developing
for countries that are following the industrialized
countries in privatizing telecommunication sectors.
I also spent a year in Venezuela advising their
telecommunications regulatory agency.
Tips/Advice to jumpstart
a career in nanotechnology
It takes a lot of study. These days engineering
and science are good fields to get into.
Why did you choose
the field of nanotechnology?
My thing is emerging technologies. I’ve
done a lot of research analysis and forecasting.
I've marked forecasting reports that identify
opportunities in technology and forecast the potential.
I've done this in a lot of telecommunication sectors.
I then got into tele-medicine and biotechnology
and I've been on the leading edge of forecasting
new technologies. Nanotechnology is the newest
thing right now and I want to be in on the ground
floor.
How did you first
get into nanotechnology?
It was a transition from other technologies. A
year or so ago I became aware of MANCEF, which
is a micro and nanotechnologies commercialization
education foundation. They had a conference here
in Dallas and I became involved in that organization
and attended their conference in Germany this
past August (2005). I also attend meetings once
a month with MTBC (Metroplex Technology Business
Council). They are an organization seeking to
develop the Dallas Fort Worth Area as an important
technology center.
What is it like
to work in nanotechnology?
Exciting!
